Go for it
The heartfelt drive to go for something can be so clear in the beginning.
And then, almost immediately, the mental chatter starts.
All the reasons why you shouldn’t. All the things that could go wrong. All the excuses and stories about why it might be too hard, too risky, too soon, or simply not for you.
Following your bliss is, in part, about following that initial feeling. That initial spark of excitement. That unbridled, unfiltered impulse to do something or go for something before the mind has time to step in and convince you of all the ways you could fail.
Because the mind loves what it knows.
It loves the familiar. It loves certainty. It loves being able to predict what happens next.
But your life isn't built, nor can it expand, from what you already know.
There is a deeper part of you that knows there is more available to you than the life you've already lived or what your mind may have you believe.
As you begin to understand how you work, you open the door to understanding that deeper part of you. The part that doesn't operate from all the pre-conceived ideas and beliefs about what you should or shouldn't do. The part that knows what your next step needs to be.
And this is where indecision often creeps in.
You have an impulse to move towards something, but then you give your mind the final say.
So you go back and forth.
You think about it, analyse it, find another reason not to it. Then, may label it stupid, ridiculous or even impossible. And eventually, that original feeling gets buried beneath all the thinking.
But all that thinking and doubting is just the mind fearing something unfamiliar, something threatening to what it knows. Unfamiliar though, doesn't mean wrong and fear isn't necessarily a reason to stop.
In fact, usually it means the opposite.
It's about listening to that quieter inner sense of what feels true for you. That intuitive guidance about what your next step needs to be. That part of you that felt so easy and simple.
Because not everything worth going for needs to feel forced, pushed or like a giant leap of faith. You only need to know what feels true for the next step.
So, if you find yourself wanting to do something and then immediately hearing a thousand reasons why you shouldn't, just slow up. Go quiet and do the opposite to that inner dialogue telling you to stay put. Because that's where feeling free exists.
So next time you feel that impulse that wants to go for it, follow it, because it already knows what’s right for you. It doesn't need more convincing, deliberating or procrastinating.
It's a matter of simply deciding that felt sense of what’s true, is worth listening to.
