Can a prayer really change it all?
Updated: 6 hours ago
I heard this prayer as a line from a character in a movie I was watching. He said it during an extremely testing time in his life and it sparked a train of thought for me.
The context in which he used this prayer was much like a hail Mary with a hope that all will be taken care of, all the while believing, deep down, the prayer was futile.
Now of course, I understand it was just a line in a movie but the train of thought that kicked off for me was on the basis that he wasn't truly wanting strength to accept the things he cannot change.
He'd had enough of what was going on and just wanted the problems to go away.
And this is something we all do!
We focus and even ruminate on problems, consistently jumping from one to the other believing we are powerless to have it any other way.
The 'cry for help' to a higher power falls on deaf ears because deep down we never really believe it will come.
It's an approach that can abdicate responsibility, something the Ego loves to do – blame the Will of God for things going the wrong way.

BUT context and intention are huge if you truly wish to change your circumstances in life.
Joy, happiness, fun, all those things you search for are not available unless YOU exercise your free Will to genuinely accept the things you cannot change.
And YOU exercise your free will to create a shift in your inner state.
Because your Will is all you can control, everything else just needs to be accepted, completely, without an undertone of fear or hopelessness exasperated by calling on something external to you to change your circumstances.
Cultivating a state of being, a knowing, that you are for more than your body and your mind. That there is unfathomably more to your creation and your very being, what you mean and why you are here than what the mind can conceptualise.

I'm not saying denounce your faith or cease calling on a 'higher power' to help you, labelling the same as futile.
It's a matter of recognising that you have that same power already within you.
The same wisdom and intuitive guidance, the same capacity to create change within you and around you.
Recognising that it's just a resource you're yet to tap into and a change to your inner state is entirely capable at your doing.
And when you do, that's how you become empowered and gain the strength needed to accept what you cannot change.
This is what really sets you free.
Not only from the worry or angst about a specific situation you may be experiencing, but for life in general and all the ebbs and flows.

Liberate yourself from the mind created notions that things need to be controlled or that a power, separate to you, will bring what you need.
That power can help, and does help but you also need to look for that power within you which is ironically, the same power you look for in prayer or that higher power.
